Lear Investment Management Names Peter Grauer, Former Bloomberg Chairman and CEO, to Head Its New Advisory Board

Lear Investment Management, a registered investment advisor serving high net worth individuals, families, advisors, and institutions, today appointed former Bloomberg L.P. Chairman and CEO Peter Grauer, who helped transform Bloomberg into one of the most influential financial and business information companies in the world, as Chair of its newly formed Advisory Board.

Grauer’s appointment and the formation of the new board are part of a strategic effort to strengthen Lear in its next stage of growth while preserving the independent investment culture that has defined the investment manager since its founding in 2014.

“Peter has spent his career helping build and guide exceptional organizations,” said Rick Lear, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Lear Investment Management, which is approaching $2 billion in assets under management. “Having his counsel is both an honor and a powerful endorsement of what our team can accomplish in the years to come.”

He added: “Peter’s judgment and experience in developing leadership teams, strengthening governance, and managing growth will be invaluable as we continue to build out a different type of investment firm—one that doesn’t just check the boxes and isn’t beholden to style boxes simply because that’s the way the investment industry has done things for decades.”

Grauer served as Chairman of Bloomberg L.P. for more than two decades, guiding the company through a period of sustained global growth that helped establish Bloomberg as one of the world’s most influential financial and business information providers. He also served as Bloomberg’s Chief Executive Officer and President. Grauer brings deep public-company governance experience to his new role, having served as a director of leading global companies including Blackstone, Glencore and DaVita. Before joining Bloomberg, Grauer was a managing director and senior partner at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where he founded and built DLJ Merchant Banking Partners and DLJ Investment Partners into one of the industry’s leading private equity franchises. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Harvard Business School Program for Management Development.

As Chair of Lear’s new Advisory Board, Grauer will provide counsel to the firm’s leadership on strategic planning, organizational development, governance, and long-term growth. He will not participate in day-to-day portfolio management or individual investment decisions.

Expanding the Firm’s Capabilities

These moves come as Lear has also recently strengthened its investment research team with the addition of Yves C. Siegel, CFA as Senior Research Advisor-Energy & Infrastructure. The addition of this veteran analyst and portfolio manager brings decades of investment research experience and deep expertise across energy, infrastructure, and power companies.

“We are not simply adding headcount,” Lear said. “We are building the team and infrastructure that we believe the firm will need for the next decade. The caliber of people interested in joining Lear reinforces our conviction that we have created something distinctive.”

Preparing for a New Investment World

Lear believes profound changes in technology, energy, infrastructure, global supply chains, and geopolitics are creating new opportunities while challenging many longstanding investment assumptions surrounding risks and returns. The firm’s investment approach combines independent fundamental research, active portfolio and risk management, and the flexibility to allocate capital as opportunities and risks evolve.

“The investment landscape is changing rapidly, and to be successful investors and deliver for our clients, we must evolve with it,” Lear said. “Our goal is to preserve the independent thinking and investment discipline that got us here while adding the organizational depth and resources that will allow us to serve a larger client base without compromising what makes Lear distinctive.”
